Omaha Steel has invested heavily in EGAL and use it extensively. We view this process as critical for clean melting and keeping impurity ratios low. Our bulk tanks of argon enable Omaha Steel to have a continuous stream delivered to the furnaces. The inert blanketing capability of the system lowers the amount of time the steel is exposed to atmosphere and keeps gaseous impurities from dissolving into the metal.
EGAL results in better melt cleanliness and preserves melt quality during melting and tapping.
We test all heats of steel. Before the steel even leaves the furnace, we’re checking for chemical composition and comparing it against internal and customer requirements. This chemical analysis leads to lower scrap rates, lower impurity ratios, and an overall better part.
The metallurgical lab at Omaha Steel performs a variety of non-destructive testing (NDTs). We offer certified NDT capability for magnetic particle testing, liquid penetrant testing, chemical/spectrometer testing, tensile testing, and more.
We can manage other tests for you, such as Charpy, among others. Our testing services utilize industry leaders for each kind of test, and we make the entire process transparent for our customers.
For sand-molded casting, Omaha Steel can produce molds using standard or specialty sands. Some of the molding sands used are chromite sand, zircon sand, and silica sand.
