Engineering Intern

Job Position: Engineering Intern

DEPARTMENT: TECHNICAL QUALITY

Wages: Hourly | Employment Status: Internship | Reports to Foundry Casting Engineer

Summary of Position

Omaha Steel is looking for a winter intern. College students returning home and 18 yr old+ local high school students attending college next spring are encouraged to apply. The work will be to support the technical, engineering, and quality staff.  Will require some computer skills and basic math.  Length of time: 2 to 3 Weeks.

Help Foundry Casting Engineer in developing 3D models from 2D drawings. Perform time and cost studies of manufacturing operations. Aid in the implantation of new processes and process controls.

Duties, Responsibilities and Skills:

  • Actively participate in product/process continuous improvement team activities
  • Assist operation personnel in development of manufacturing work instructions
  • Participate in time studies of casting processes and finishing operations
  • Create 3D models of existing castings
  • Perform any and all other job-related tasks as assigned
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Requirements

  • High school degree with some college study in related fields. High level of mechanical aptitude
  • Must have knowledge of 3D modeling software
  • Must have a basic understanding of work process instructions
  • Works in a climate controlled office for 50% of the time. Exposed to dust, fumes, heat, and noise when in the manufacturing areas
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs., bend, walk, and reach as needed
  • Must have the ability to interact with internal and external contacts in a positive and professional manner
  • Microsoft Word and Excel experience, and general computer knowledge and organizational skills desired
  • Must be able to read and write in English and possess good writing skills
  • Must have reliable attendance, willing to flexible hours, & work well with others
