Job Position: HR Generalist Intern

DEPARTMENT: HUMAN RESOURCES

Wages: Hourly | Employment Status: Full-time | Reports to Human Resources and Safety Manager

The HR Generalist Intern will coordinate various HR projects and administrative tasks while working both independently and under general supervision from the HR Manager. This position will play a vital role in supporting the company’s established General Work and Safety Rules as well as all policy and procedure administration. Excellent customer service focus, creative and innovative problem-solving, stellar communication skills, and a high degree of flexibility are keys to success in this role.

Duties, Responsibilities, and Skills

  • Assist with providing support in functional areas of a human resources department, which may include recruitment and employment by complying with the E-Verify process, personnel records, employee and/or labor relations, job evaluation, compensation management, benefits administration, organization development and training
  • Review application/resume; interview job applicants; evaluate applicant skills and make recommendations regarding applicant’s qualifications for open positions
  • Develop and place recruitment ads with appropriate media. Continually evaluate the placement options and effectiveness
  • Assist with administering yearly Open Enrollment process by conducting necessary notifications and employee training
    Assist with the development of in-house training systems that address company training needs
  • Assist with auditing training records to assure they are current and employees performing the tasks are qualified to do so and correct any deficiencies found
  • Develop and update tracking matrix and measurement tools for employee information (Training, vacation, timesheets, job applications, SDS, etc.)

  • Counsel and assist employees with problems and questions relating to personnel policies and procedures
  • Assist in maintaining employee and candidate-related data bases (ADP, B&L, Global Shop, OSCAR)
  • Monitor safety supplies and provide input for PPE selection and control costs by maintaining PPE inventory and tracking of employee usage
  • Interprets, assists and advises employees and managers on HR procedures and policies
  • Assist with performing administrative duties in support of the maintenance of employee records, including personnel status updates, terminations, and new hires.
  • Have general understanding of legal and regulatory factors affecting compensation and benefits
  • Assists in the collection of employee information for reports and statistical research
  • Maintains a high level of integrity and discretion in the handling of confidential information.
  • Participates as an active member of the safety committee
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with all employees in the company
  • Visibility – be highly visible and accessible to all employees
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Entry Level Qualifications and Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree from an accredited University/College with Human Resources Emphasis preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in an HR related role or equivalent experience preferred
    Strong customer service
  • Bilingual Skills a Plus
  • Ability to work independently, but a strong effective team player mentality is a must.
  • Commitment to delivering results; be solutions-oriented; have good organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Must have basic math skills.
  • Must have reliable attendance, willingness to work flexible hours, & work well with others
  • Able to follow instructions and complete assigned tasks in an unsupervised manner
  • Must have the ability to read, write, and speak English.
  • Rapport Building – have initial and continuing impact; meet people easily; get along well with people and put them at ease, quickly build rapport through proactive development of relationships
  • Ability to plan and organize – be able to establish a course of action to accomplish a specific goal; plan proper assignments of personnel and allocate resources needed in order to handle special events
  • Must perform other duties as assigned
