Production Planner

Job Position: Production Planner

DEPARTMENT: SALES

Wages: Exempt | Employment Status: Full-time | Reports to Plant Manager

Directs and oversees the planning of the operations to satisfy customer orders, while ensuring that efficiency, timeliness and quality standards are achieved. Assures shipment performance is achieved monthly and annually for all customers and Omaha Steel.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Coordinate and directs multi-departmental activities to achieve customer delivery in the most cost-effective manner
  • Prepare and analyze schedules and production orders to make decisions concerning production level requirements, optimal staffing, with consideration of budgetary limitations, time constraints, and sales forecasts
  • Coordinates with operations, engineering and quality staff to resolve bottlenecks and/or processing problems
  • Develop and implement production tracking and control systems
  • Assists with maintaining effective product inventory levels and turns
  • Oversees the BOM inventories
  • Expedites the placement of purchase orders and/or delivery of materials (BOM)
  • Analyze production demands and develops appropriate plant capacity requirements
  • Plans and schedules workflow for each department and operation according to manufacturing sequences and lead times
  • Proactively determines the status of orders, expedites operations that delay schedules and modifies schedules to meet potential unforeseen conditions
  • Monitors each operation to ensure schedule dates and/or assignments are satisfying customer order commitments
  • Compiles and provides the necessary reports that accurately reflect OSCC’s customer delivery performance, along with other internal reporting
  • Acts as a liaison between operations and customer service
  • Mentor, develop and perform performance appraisals on all direct reports
  • Actively promote and ensure a safe working environment for all that employees
  • Perform any and all other job-related tasks as assigned

Qualifications, Requirements, and Skills

  • Minimum High School degree. Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and people management skills
  • Excellent organizational and managerial skills
  • Must be detail-oriented and able to work accurately while meeting assigned deadlines
  • Must be willing to work flex hours based on operational demand
  • Must possess strong verbal skills and have a highly developed sense of urgency
  • Must have the ability to interact with internal and external contacts in a positive and professional manner
  • Microsoft Word and Excel experience with strong computer literacy and organizational skills
  • Must be able to read and write in English and possess good writing skills
  • Must have reliable attendance & work well with others
