Human Resources Manager

Job Position: Human Resources Manager

DEPARTMENT: HUMAN RESOURCES

Wage Category: Exempt | Employment Status: Full-Time | Reports to CFO

Maintains and enhances the organization’s human resources and safety by planning, implementing, and evaluating employee relations and human resources and safety policies, programs, and practices.  Directs the development and implementation of human resource policies and programs covering employment.  Ensures the appropriate recruitment and retention of employees.  Responsible for the management and development of team members to grow each human resources professional.

Recruiting & Selection

  • Set strategy and manage company recruitment and selection plan
  • Monitor and ensure company compliance with insurance plans/policies, government immigration hiring laws (E-Verify) and regulations
  • Ensure compliance with all federal employment law regulations and oversee filing of necessary government reports
  • Analyze trends compiled from exit interviews; inform and counsel management as necessary

Compensation

  • Recommend salary structures and salaries by conducting benchmarking and market analysis
  • Establish and evaluate employee recognition programs
  • Recommend system improvements, and monitor salary adjustments to ensure compliance with policy
  • Keep current on changes and additions to applicable government laws and regulations
  • Oversee the design/development of compensation strategy/programs including wage/salary structure and pay policies

Benefits

  • Administer employee benefit programs and services and actively manage the vendors
  • Fully utilize vendors’ websites, programs, and available tools to effectively manage the company’s benefits
  • Oversee timesheets and payroll processing

Training & Development

  • Develop supervisory/management training curriculum and oversee the administration of retention and mentoring program
  • Establish performance appraisal program and monitor compliance and effectiveness
  • Assist in planning and conducting new employee orientation to disseminate general company policy, procedure information, and benefit information
  • Monitor status of employees identified within the discipline system as high risk, work with supervisors on corrective action plans and approve terminations as necessary

Employee Relations

  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with key managers within the organization
  • Partner with management to communicate HR policies, procedures, programs and laws
  • Recommend employee relations practices necessary to establish a positive employer-employee relationships
  • Promote positive culture and morale
  • Assist in review of all disciplinary actions, to ensure consistency

Union Negotiations & Labor Relations

  • Provide management and leadership in all union negotiations and labor relations
  • Coordinate the documentation and administration of union contracts and policy handbooks
  • Coordinate grievances and mediate workplace disputes

Safety

  • Drive work environment improvements (air, noise, ergonomics, etc.), schedule quarterly air and noise testing
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of safety programs and ensure compliance with state’s OSHA requirements
  • Oversee the Investigation of safety incidents in conjunction with supervisors and safety officer
  • Recognize trends in both recordable and un-recordable incidents and take appropriate action
  • Serves as back-up to ensure the Emergency Action Plan, Emergency Exit Map and all other OSHA required Safety Written Programs are kept up to date, along with maintaining monthly safety audit/walk-through inspections

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or the equivalent combination of skill development and work experience; five (5) years of experience working in a Human Resources environment and management
  • Experience working in union environment highly preferred
  • Experience with Safety a plus
  • PHR or SPHR certification preferred, but not required
  • Must be detail oriented, have excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office and EXCEL
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Must have the confidence and ability to influence others, facilitate processes, and coach/advise managers.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage diverse projects and people.
  • Other duties as assigned
