Job Position: Mechanical Engineer Intern

DEPARTMENT: OPERATIONS

Wages: Hourly | Employment Status: Full-Time | Reports to Plant Manager

Summary of Position

This position will report directly to the plant manager but will work closely with the Foundry Engineer and Maintenance Manager positions. The Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for developing and establishing new and existing production processes, methods and equipment design, along with associated improvements and enhancements. This position at OSCC will assist in all aspects of our foundry procedures, compliances, and measurements.

Duties, Responsibilities and Skills:

  • Establishes equipment standard operating procedures
  • Enhances productivity and efficiency through the improvement of our methods, machines and materials
  • Improves manufacturing efficiency by analyzing work flow, space requirements, material handling and equipment design with consideration given to ergonomics
  • Assists with successful corrections to production problems using sound manufacturing engineering problems-solving techniques and practices
  • Assists and provides the necessary technical support in the maintenance of new and existing equipment
  • Assists in providing the ROI analysis for capital expenditure projects, along with the oversight of the purchase, installation and start-up operation
  • Responsible for the successful completion of small to medium-sized projects of medium complexity with less clearly defined goals/scope and concise project progress reports
  • Evaluates need, analyzes, options, develops a plan, develops Appropriation Request (AR) and manages implementation of project until completed within the allotted time frame
  • Develops procedures and provides training on new processes, tools, and equipment, including but not limited to defining Preventative and Predictive Maintenance requirements and mechanical evaluations of processes and equipment, as needed
  • Assists with successful corrections to production problems using sound manufacturing engineering problem-solving techniques and practices. When needed, develops alternate methods of processes to allow emergency continued production
  • Supports production operations through the resolution of obstacles
  • Assists in the measurement of production, costs of quality and safety
  • Track, analyze and improve key maintenance performances indices including asset utilization, uptime, PM compliance, etc.
  • Prepare reports, analyze data and make recommendations for improving plant operations and solving mechanical-related problems thru a full build out of MP2 and work order requisition automation and priorities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • High school degree with some college study in related fields. High level of mechanical aptitude
  • Preferred knowledge of AutoCAD and solid works software
  • Must have a basic understanding of work process instructions
  • Would work in the plant up to 50% of the time, which would include exposure to dust, fumes, heat and noise when in the manufacturing areas
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs., bend, walk, and reach as needed
  • Must have the ability to interact with internal and external contacts in a positive and professional manner
  • Microsoft Word and Excel experience, and general computer knowledge and organizational skills desired
  • Must be able to read and write in English and possess good writing skills
  • Has taken statics
  • Must have reliable attendance, willing to flexible hours, & work well with others
